Field Trip Leader: Baxter & Tucker Beamer
UPDATE Feb. 24, 5:00pm : Baxter Beamer is cancelling this field trip due to tomorrow’s weather forecast.
Below is part of the email he just sent out to Doug.
It looks likely that there will be thundershowers tomorrow morning, and I don’t think that I should be leading a bird hike. So unfortunately, I think I’m going to have to call off the trip. Hate to do it but the weather does not look great.
Take Belevedere Boulevard off Rio Road East and follow it straight (through rotary or two) onto Belvedere Drive. Park at the terminus of Belvedere Drive where it joins the Rivanna Trail.
Blue Ridge Young Birders Baxter & Tucker Beamer very frequently bird the Rivanna Trail in the Belvedere Area. We are lucky that they are willing to lead us on a trip of their favorite spot that they know extremely well. We will have a fun morning of birding through a variety of habitats including mixed forest, open fields, and brush habitats for sparrows alongside the Rivanna River. Expect to see Fox, Swamp, and Savannah Sparrows, and other winter songbirds, raptors, woodpeckers, blackbirds. There’s also the possibility for spotting waterfowl or a Red-breasted Nuthatch. Hope to see you there!
