Teel Lane Park and Ride
Field Trip Leader: John Holden
Meet at the Teel Lane Park and Ride on Route 29 S, just south of I-64 on the East side of Route 29. We will carpool the “1 hour 11 min” drive (according to Google Maps) to the park.
Situated along the banks of the James River, SE of Amherst, the park offers a variety of habitats for birding. We will walk a bluff-top trail to an overlook of the confluence of the James and Tye Rivers and then explore a short riverside trail through a Paw Paw grove and along the base of cliffs. We will bird open meadows near the visitor center and later along the James; then visit a pond and some wetland enclosures.
Bring lunch, a daypack, adequate clothing and plenty of water. Expect to walk a mostly level 3 miles during the course of the day.
Contact leader John Holden (973-9179) with any questions.
