Speaker: Gabriel Mapel
Topic: Spring Migration at Magee Marsh
The December speaker is well known to all or should be soon now that the Rockfish Gap hawk watch season is drawing to a close. Relatively speaking, Gabriel is an old-timer in the birding game and in particular with Monticello Bird Club, where he and his mother Mary have been in charge of both Publicity and Fieldtrips at different times. He is a tireless watcher of birds who seems to have more hours in his day than the mere 24 the rest of us are given.
A resident of the Shenandoah Valley, Gabriel has been a mainstay at the hawk watch for years already, authored a book about bears in Shenandoah National Park, is a co-founder and Youth President of the Blue Ridge Young Birders’ Club, and is an excellent guide and/or companion on field trips. And this just scratches the surface.
Please come on Wednesday December 7th, when he will be giving a presentation on the spring warbler migration at the world-famous Magee Marsh in NW Ohio.
Following the meeting is our annual Holiday celebration. Patty, our Hospitality chair, asks members to please bring a dish to share and/or a small bird-related item to donate as a prize in the raffle. Suggestions for food items include, but are not limited to, pick-up nibbles, antipasto, appetizers, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, cookies or dessert items. Beverages will be provided. If you have any questions, please email Patty Kalbfleisch at [email protected]. Patty thanks you for your participation and looks forward to celebrating with everyone after the meeting and Gabriel’s program.
As tradition dictates, you are invited to our Meet the Speaker pre-meeting dinner at Brick Oven Restaurant, 1966 Rio Hill Center, Charlottesville at 5:30pm.
