7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Topic: Birds of India
Speaker: Jeff Blalock
Staunton River State Park, one of the original six state parks established back in 1936, deserves to be better known than it is. That it isn’t is certainly not the fault of tonight’s speaker. Jeff Blalock, who calls nearby South Boston, VA home, has truly made it his backyard.
For the January meeting, however, Jeff will be giving a presentation instead on the birdlife of India. Based on a recent trip to the incredibly varied Indian subcontinent, it will certainly make for a colorful beginning to 2018. We still love our sparrows, woodpeckers, and kinglets, but a winter night spent with hornbills, parrots, and bee-eaters might be a good change of pace. And with an entertaining speaker to boot.
Please note: If you are planning to attend the 5:30pm Meet the Speaker gathering this evening, head for Burton’s Grill in Stonefield Shopping Center to meet Jeff and other MBC’ers. We are switching locales (from Brick Oven to Burton’s) this month to accommodate some food allergies. (And, please ignore the standard “snippet” about Brick Oven that follows. It will be back in effect next month.)
As tradition dictates, you are invited to our Meet the Speaker pre-meeting dinner at Brick Oven Restaurant, 1966 Rio Hill Center, Charlottesville at 5:30pm.
